The overall traffic of the port of Marseille Fos in the first half of 2017 shows an increase of 2% compared to 2016. For the first part of the year, traffic at the port of Marseille Fos amounts to 39.3 million tonnes.

In a statement, the large seaport of Marseille welcomes this positive figure despite the stoppage of imports of crude at the Mede refinery, which no longer consumes heavy oil . On its own, the hydrocarbons sector actually declined by 3% precisely. At the change of direction of the Mede is added the shutdown for maintenance of the Esso refinery in Fos.

The most significant growth was in the general merchandise sector, which increased by 12%. Under the category of this sector, the conventional industry (ie the transport of goods which are not transported in bulk, containers or rolling loads) increased by 32% thanks to the steel industry. Passenger transport was virtually stable with an increase of 1%.
